FAQ & Important Information
What to know before we start.
No. I work under the title Mental Performance Coach, a non-clinical, performance-focused coaching role. It isn't a licensed psychological or mental health service. This is a deliberate choice consistent with California title-protection law. If a concern comes up that calls for licensed care, I'll help point you toward the right professional.
CMPC stands for Certified Mental Performance Consultant®, a credential awarded by the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP). I hold the academic qualifications for it and am currently working toward full certification, including securing an AASP-approved mentor to complete the required mentorship hours. I'm upfront about exactly where I stand in that process with every client.
What you share stays between us under the terms of our coaching agreement. Because this is a coaching relationship rather than licensed therapy, it doesn't carry the same legal privilege that licensed mental health treatment does. There are also standard legal exceptions, for example mandated reporting requirements that apply when working with minors under California law. All of this is explained in writing before sessions begin.
Parent or guardian consent is required before working with any client under 18, and I'll walk you through an intake and informed consent process that covers goals, confidentiality, and how sessions work before your athlete's first session.
Both. In-person sessions are based in Napa and the North Bay; virtual sessions are available more broadly. If you're located outside California, reach out anyway; virtual work across state lines is handled case by case.
One-on-one coaching is for competitive or travel-level athletes, ages 14 and up. Athletes under 14, or at a recreational level, build the same skills through group workshops instead, with parents involved throughout.
There's no fixed package. After an initial conversation about your players, staff, and season, I put together a proposal scoped to your group's size and goals.
